James Hardie Alliance Enrolled · Tacoma, WA
We are a James Hardie ALLIANCE enrolled installer working across Tacoma and the South Sound. That means trained installation to Hardie’s specification — correct fastening, clearances and flashing — which is what the 30-year non-prorated substrate warranty depends on. Our own installation carries a separate 2-year workmanship warranty.
PrimeGuard Exteriors is a James Hardie Alliance enrolled contractor installing the full Hardie product line — HardiePlank lap, HardiePanel vertical, HardieShingle, and HardieTrim — across Tacoma, Lakewood, University Place, Gig Harbor, and the South Sound.
James Hardie does not let just anyone install their products. The Alliance contractor program is the company's way of validating that an installer knows the product, knows the install techniques, and runs a business with the integrity to back up the work. To be Alliance enrolled, a contractor has to be reviewed against Hardie's installation standards, complete product training, maintain proper licensing and insurance, and agree to install per Hardie's published specifications. We are an Alliance enrolled installer — and we install Hardie the way Hardie says it should be installed.
Why does that matter to you? Because the 30-year James Hardie product warranty is contingent on a proper install. Cut corners on flashing, gap spacing, fastener type, or weather barrier and the warranty is void. PrimeGuard Exteriors installs to the published Hardie specification on every job — not because we are forced to, but because that is how Hardie is supposed to be installed. The warranty is the byproduct of doing it right.
The flagship Hardie product. Horizontal lap siding in 5.25", 6.25", 7.25", and 8.25" exposures. Smooth, cedarmill, and beaded profiles. ColorPlus or primed-for-paint.
Vertical 4x8 or 4x10 panels with stucco, cedarmill, sierra 8, or smooth textures. The base for board-and-batten when paired with HardieTrim battens.
Pre-cut individual shingle panels and straight-edge panels for shake and shingle siding looks. Perfect for accent gables, dormers, or full-shingle craftsman exteriors.
Corner boards, frieze, fascia, window and door trim, gable accents. 5/4 and 1x stock in smooth and rustic-grain textures. ColorPlus or primed.
Vented and non-vented soffit panels designed to coordinate with Hardie siding. Resists wood rot, woodpecker damage, and PNW moisture intrusion.
Hardie's factory-baked finish — significantly more durable than field-applied paint. Backed by a 15-year ColorPlus warranty against fading, chipping, and peeling.

Most full James Hardie installs on a single-family Tacoma home fall between $22,000 and $58,000. ColorPlus pre-finished is $3-$6 per square foot more than primed-for-paint, but you save on field painting costs and gain the 15-year ColorPlus warranty. We give you an itemized estimate on the first visit.
Primed Hardie ships ready for field paint. ColorPlus is finished at the Hardie factory with a baked-on coating that is dramatically more durable than field paint and backed by a 15-year ColorPlus warranty against fading. For most Tacoma homeowners ColorPlus is the better long-term value — less maintenance, longer-lasting color, no field paint job to schedule.
James Hardie engineers their products by climate zone. Tacoma falls in HZ5 (HardieZone 5) — the colder, wetter zone designed for the Pacific Northwest, Northeast, and other moisture-heavy climates. HZ5 products are formulated for our exact conditions. We install only HZ5-rated Hardie in the South Sound.
A typical Hardie install on a single-family Tacoma home takes 7 to 14 working days. Hardie is heavier and slower to install than vinyl or LP SmartSide — but that is exactly why it lasts. Larger homes or complex trim work can extend that timeline.
Hardie offers a 30-year limited transferable product warranty on their siding and a 15-year limited warranty on ColorPlus finish. We add a 2-Year Workmanship Warranty + Manufacturer Warranties on top of that — so you have two layers of coverage on every Hardie install we do.
Generally no. James Hardie should be installed over a proper weather-resistive barrier (house wrap) on structurally sound sheathing. That means tearing off the existing siding first. We sometimes find issues underneath that need addressing — dry rot, missing sheathing, bad flashings — and we fix them as part of the project.
The most popular ColorPlus colors for the South Sound are Arctic White, Iron Gray, Boothbay Blue, Khaki Brown, Aged Pewter, and Evening Blue. Darker colors like Iron Gray and Evening Blue handle the cloudy PNW light especially well. We bring physical color samples to your estimate so you can hold them against your house in real lighting.

We are family-owned and second generation. Our owner’s father ran a siding crew for 14 years, and he started on the jobsite himself at 15. Today PrimeGuard runs two crews across the South Sound — siding, replacement windows, doors, trim and exterior paint.
James Hardie ALLIANCE enrolled. Every job carries our 2-year workmanship warranty plus the manufacturer’s warranty on the products we install.
