Wood & cedar siding — Tacoma & Puget Sound

Real Cedar & Wood Siding Installation in Western Washington.

Nothing matches the warmth of real Western Red Cedar — and the Pacific Northwest is the place to build with it. Cedar is naturally rot- and insect-resistant, ages gracefully, and lasts decades when installed and detailed right. We install cedar lap, channel, shake, board-and-batten, and matching soffits & accents across the South Sound.

Why homeowners choose it

Why real cedar still belongs on PNW homes.

Naturally rot-resistant.

Western Red Cedar contains natural oils (thujaplicins) that resist decay and insects without chemical treatment — perfectly suited to Puget Sound climate.

Locally sourced.

The Pacific Northwest is the world capital of cedar. Shorter supply chain, kiln-dried locally, and the wood is acclimated to the climate it will live in.

Ages gracefully.

Cedar develops a silver-gray patina if left untreated, or holds stain beautifully for a maintained finish. Either path looks intentional.

Real-wood texture.

Engineered wood and fiber cement try to imitate cedar grain. Real cedar is the original — depth, knots, and movement you cannot fake.

Our install process

How a PrimeGuard cedar install actually runs.

  1. Free in-home estimate. Profile selection, finish discussion (clear sealer, semi-transparent stain, or natural weathering), and written quote.
  2. Material order. We order kiln-dried Clear-Grade or A-Grade cedar from PNW mills, pre-stained where the design calls for it.
  3. Tear-off & rot inspection. Old siding off, any rot or structural issues documented and reviewed with you before repair.
  4. Weather barrier, rain-screen, flashing. House wrap, vertical furring strips for rain-screen ventilation (critical for cedar longevity), and custom flashing at all openings.
  5. Cedar install. Stainless steel fasteners (cedar oils corrode regular steel), proper end-grain sealing, and tight craftsmanship-grade gaps.
  6. Finish & walkthrough. Touch-up sealer where needed. Care instructions and warranty paperwork delivered in writing.

FAQ

Quick answers homeowners ask.

Does cedar siding need to be stained?

No, but most homeowners choose to. Untreated cedar weathers to a silver-gray within 1-2 years. Staining preserves the warm honey tone and adds another decade to the maintenance interval.

How long does cedar siding last?

With proper installation (rain-screen, stainless fasteners, end-grain sealing) and a maintained finish, real cedar lasts 40-60+ years in the PNW.

Is cedar more expensive than fiber cement?

Per-board cost is comparable; total installed cost depends on profile and finish. Real cedar typically lands 10-25% over a premium fiber cement install.

What grade of cedar do you use?

Clear-Grade Western Red Cedar for visible elevations, A-Grade for shake and accents. We can show samples at the estimate.
